The Change

By CJ Capili

Summer has fallen, and the heat as risen the question now comes to mind: “What do we do?” While the others are at the beach having fun, or working to have some pocket money, there are people who are training to become better dancers. Dancers who are seeking new skills, new styles, and most likely trying to refine their art, a reason to why a dancer we once knew last year is now a completely different person over the course of the summer. Change can occur at any moment, and while summer has opened its arms to us, there are a select few of dancers who either take a break or continue on a spree to refine their style and take on the challenges that one dancer will face in the future.

While change occurs throughout our whole existence, there are those who refuse to change, those who find the change too hard, those who find change as something that’ll hurt them, and so on and so forth.  But in reality, these are just excuses made to make their own life easier and to avoid the realities of life. When change occurs, we don’t take a second to hesitate what that change will become, we don’t tell ourselves “I’ll do this, I’ll do that, and I’ll try my best.” It’s like what Emeroy Bernardo would usually just tell me “Just do it.” Do it on a whim, without hesitation, or doubt. Go forth and take on the change, take a risk. Life is all about taking risks, and not taking it sometimes can lead us to miss out on the best experiences in our life.

Though change can bring forth something new in someone’s life, it doesn’t mean it’ll happen overnight. Changes in our lives will always happen slowly, but that slow progression will always bring great results as long as we become humble, patient, and willing for that change to happen. As a dancer we just need to embrace the change, and take on the different styles there is to offer, though it may feel uncomfortable and “wack” we must dive into it like no other. Because the end result of taking classes of different styles can leave us amazed and in awe because we find some new power that leaves us enlightened and even more skilled a dancer.

As long as our mind, body and soul are intact we can excel like no other.
As long as the drive to dance is there, you can always become the dancer you dream to be.
Inspirations come from the heart and mind, but it’s the people around us who inspire us.
Dream big and aim high, we are like birds, freely flying into the sky nothing holding us down.
