The Road to Urban Street Jam Pt II

By Emeroy Bernardo

A lot's been happening these past few months.
I was recently hired at Sassoon Film Design over at Santa Monica working from 6AM-2PM and pretty soon 5AM-3PM. But I'll get into that another time... maybe.
Teen Groov and Fam Biz are competing at Urban Street Jam which is a little more than a week away.
Stephanie and I have been working vigorously to put their costumes together. The process is super exciting as taxing as it is. It's even more exciting to see it when it comes to life and people put it on.

Workshops of the Hip Hop Generations

Two dope workshops are coming up! Culture Shock Los Angeles' 6th Annual H4: Hip Hop Has History and Teen Groovs Teen Master Dance Workshop.

Both are seriously sick workshops repping both generations of the Old and New Skool!

H4 will have some of the best of today's generation along with some of the pioneers of hip hop dance!
Beau Fournier will be there to teach commercial hip hop along with Flat Top teaching popping and Bboy Machine sharing his knowledge on breakin!

There's a variety of styles and classes you can take! I know I'll definitely be there to take Bboy Machine's class so I hope to see you guys this weekend!

Happenin' this weekend Sunday, February 27th!

Along with paying homage to the history of our culture, this coming workshop is a small insight of the future generation of dancers. Teen Master Workshop brings in a young batch of talent from Underground, Teen Groov, and Offspring. With a lot of the youth showcasing their talents nowadays, these dancers are sure to impress!

And just because they're not 18 and out of high school, doesn't mean adults can't take them either! This workshop is open to everyone! So come out, dance, and let's have some fun!

Coming to Jayvee Dance Center Saturday, March 12th!

To Feel Inspired, I Must Inspire Others

By CJ Capili

So, got home and I have this feeling inside me. Something that's making me smile, and I can't help but feel refreshed.
Today feels different, and I know its a good thing something I've needed for the past few weeks.

School started = no big deal, challenges will come and I will be ready.

But tonight, something hit me. Something that only others already know.
I came back to dance for Fam Biz, not because i need to get out of my depression, I wanted to dance and be part of the family to continue where I left off. I'm inspired, I'm motivated and i want to expand my horizon. They are family, they are my roots, they are what brings me joy and brings me closer to what i love the most.

The past few weeks, since i came back. I have this urge, this drive to work to push myself to the edge. I'm slowly losing weight( I think ) because of practice and my work outs. But picking up the pieces by the choreographer for our set makes me feel proud, because even though i was gone, I feel like I was still there in the end. And though i can't be part of our upcoming performance that will not stop me from working harder and harder.

And now how I feel tonight wasn't just something that erupted to my face or some shit. Emeroy gave me and  Alyssa the responsibility to teach Steph's piece, THOUGH we don't know how to teach the piece, i gave Alyssa to take lead because i can't fully teach. But during that whole time i had this feeling of pride. That these people in the team that are either new to choreo or completely new to dancing, we can help in many ways. Though it was hard, it was all worth while. I was able to see the capabilities of these people that were learning, they need to be pushed to have motivation and guided to become better dancers.

Now there is a person in the team I have been talking with, giving advice, giving words that I know I went through. He's new to this experience and giving him my thoughts made me feel stronger as a dancer. Motivated to learn, and motivated to improve myself so I can teach. I want to teach, iIhave this itch to just dance when I'm hooked onto my ipod. And the day I can teach is the day I can be at the top of the world.

Bottom line is, giving advices and guidance to dancing feels great. Though i am not the best, and will be honest about it, I won't let it stop me from working harder and become a better dancer. I won't stop from helping others in the team, and giving my experience.

Today was a day I never expected to happen. Been wanting to find the strength to get out of my rut, and shit today was just perfect. What i always wanted to feel. Time will do its thing, and I'll use this opportunity to build myself from the bottom up.

thanks for the motivation and strength. :D

Takin' A Look Back

By Matt The Shat

Everytime I step into Jayvee I remember all the jams all the random sessions when all the Bboys would be getting down there. That was a great time soooo much talent. Everyone holding it down. And til this day there's soo much. The first New Kids on The Block jam went down there. And how many years later that jam is going on today (good shit NES!) Big ups to Fam Biz tonight, they hold it down 150%...they never cease to amaze me...
Even though choreo isn't my first style of choice I have an absolute respect towards it and appreciate it. I honestly give it up for cats that get down like that. The musicality they have is pretty amazing to me, just because the moves aren't as athletic the style is just soooo nasty. That's where its not about the moves but the groove comes into play. As much as I love bboying I honestly enjoy watching different styles get down. What I love about it hip hop is that it doesn't discriminate, it welcomes ALL STYLES. They had the rejectz performing the CAT DADDY at bboy summit and even taught it, real talk. Ughh well I forgot I was gonna put some crap on here but ya naw.

Urban Street Jam march fif, I know no ones doing shit that day so come out and support. Support the cats that believe in what hip hops all about peace love and unity under whatever religion you believe in. People forget hip hops not just a genre of music you think you like, its an artform that shaped this very fukin country!!!!!

On a last note just think, without hip hop without Rap without Bboying, without Graff, without the DJ, and Emcee where would this WORLD even be?!

Just think.....then BE!

The Road to Urban Street Jam

I know it's been awhile since we last posted something up. Things have gotten super busy since the new year AND the start-up of our new set!

With the new year and new set under way, we recently added some new friendly faces to the family! And I'm proud to say that I'm glad they came out and made it. Not only are they talented dancers, but they carry the spirit and essence of what we look for in a dancer. And we're happy to have them be a part of this journey.

We've been doing a lot of work getting ready for Urban Street Jam. We just finished learning most of the choreography and are currently in process of staging. We've also decided to get the costumes a little earlier this time around so we can get used to dancing with them on. We're definitely trying something a little different, and hopefully everyone enjoys it as much as we are putting it together.

I can't give out too much so you'll have to come check us out over at Urban Street Jam coming to Anaheim Saturday, March 5th!

We're actually selling tickets!  You ask any one of the FamBiz members for one if you're interested! The pre-sale tickets are $25 right now, so don't wait for it to go up at the door! Tickets are limited so get at them before it's too late!

Looking forward to seeing everyone there and on the next post!
