A Dancer Recognized - Anthony Macaraeg

By Christian Jordan Capili

Anthony Macaraeg is one of those dancers that deserve recognition not just in FamBiz, but also in the dancing community. He is a guy who portrays the passion for dance, and also carries the title of a “Coach” for the Glendale High School Coed & All Male Dance Team. As I share details about Anthony, you’ll see the reasons of what makes him such an important dancer not just to me but to the people who he ends up guiding. His dedication and passion for dance allows us to see the in depth story of what values a person like him holds and what makes him continue to be a dancer to this day
.
Anthony is a 22 year old man, who comes from Los Angeles, CA. He graduated on the year of 2006, and was a big part of Glendale High School Coed & All Male Dance Team. His experience in dance spanned from the Fall ’02 to present time, and his skills in dance varies from Hiphop, Jazz, lyrical and even to contemporary. These skills didn’t just come out from thin air, but was gained through his experience in Small All Male, Coed, Small Dance, Large Lyrical, Hip Hop, Large All Male, and lastly Solos. These experiences contributed to his growth as a dancer, and have eventually led him to become one of the known coaches for the Glendale High School Coed & All Male Dance Team.

After Anthony graduated from Glendale High School, he continued to dance throughout the years and joined his first dance team from Cal State Long Beach’s, Pac Modern. I asked him a few questions to
understand his experience during the time he was part of Pac Modern:

            How was the experience?
It truly broadened my horizon and gave me such amazing life experience. I definitely made lifelong friends being on Pac Modern.
And what did you learn from it?
I learned the elements of hip hop and also learned the various hip hop dance styles (popping, locking, bboying, whacking, commercial, etc). Also, it raised the meaning of the word "dedication" into a whole new meaning.
After his experience from Pac Modern, Anthony took a 1 year hiatus from dancing, but once again the love for dance allowed him to come back into it once more and stated that:
“I felt I still needed to grow more as a dancer and that Family Bizness was the perfect team for that”
Following his hiatus, he became part of the FamBiz family, and led me to ask him a few questions as well:
If you can define Family Bizness, what would it be?
A team that prides itself with growth and camaraderie.
What are your plans for the future for Family Bizness?
My plans for the future of FamBiz would be to be to become one of many fans who look forward to a FamBiz performance

As Anthony has become a notable dancer for Family Bizness, he has become one of the known coaches for the Glendale High School Coed & All Male Dance Team. His love for teaching and to inspire kids is what brought him to become a coach. Alongside that the art of choreography allows him to stay motivated throughout his life, but also as being a coach to future dancers also motivates him to inspire the kids around him to better themselves as dancers as well. To pass on the passion, knowledge, and skill as he was once taught when he began as a dancer.

His capabilities as a dancer, is what makes me, and everyone else in the dance community have the valued respect that any recognized dancer would have. For him to strive for success as a coach and to lead his dance squads in Glendale High School brings him joy and the love for dance that is shown in his kids is what brings a smile to his face. As part of Family Bizness, his style of choreography is what adds a sense of flare into the pieces that are performed by the team. Nevertheless, his dedication and skill as a dancer is important for any dancer alike. Sharing his talent to the world is what he adores, and his passion for dance will always be seen to the crowd. As I end this profile about Anthony Macaraeg, I asked him one last question:

As a dance coach, what advice can you give to future dancers?
You will always earn as much work as you put in. Everyone has been a newbie in dance at some point; it’s a sport that requires patience.
