Bboy Venum Workshop

By Matt Da 5hat

Last Sunday I took a Bboy workshop from Bboy Venum of the Skill Methodz crew, LXD, the world famous Rocksteady Crew and seen in movies such as Step up 3d and not to mention hip hop superteam the Groovaloos.

The first time I have ever seen Bboy Venum was from Freestyle Session 7. Probably one of the sickest events ever. Bboy Venum straight up went in the circle during the battle and totally ripped a new one in it. His floorwork, transitions, freezes, power moves and style got me. This guy was the total package. Not to mention his crew SKMZ, these guys are raw.

Fast forward to today and this Bboy is still ripping it worldwide.
So last Sunday I took his workshop along with a special guest his girlfriend, Bgirl Tanya from the Russian Steps crew, this Bgirl is ill and don't let the pretty face fool you.

Bboy Venum showed us different ways to get into our moves or "go downs." This is a very important part of bboying the transition between toprock to the floor. He took his time with us knowing we weren't that advanced which was really dope. I must admit even though it was an honor to go right after him in the cypher I messed up a little and he told me to go back in which was really cool.

Bgirl Tanya showed us different toprock combinations that I never knew that were possible. The combinations were real fresh. We were practicing Russian kicks which are pretty much the basis for footwork.

In the middle of the workshop when the dancing was paused he sat us down and told us why he does workshops for free. He basically explained that when he was young he couldn't make it out to dance workshops because of financial struggles and living in an unstable environment as a child.

Bboy Venum honestly does these workshops out of the goodness of his heart, this Bboy is real. He also wanted us to invite anybody we could because its a free workshop to express yourself through the art of bboying. This ties in to the whole each one teach one concept. It's all about educating each other and not leaving anyone in the dark. Knowledge is power. Open minds open hearts. This workshop was very inspirational to me and I got to meet a Bboy that I look up to.

Be sure to look him up on his Facebook fan page Jaime Venum Burgos to get more information on his workshops!
